Increased cattle volumes at auctioned this week made for a slightly stronger buyers market, ending three weeks of price increases.  Saskatchewan feeder cattle were negatively affected across all weight classes, in both the steer and heifer markets with the greatest declines being experienced in the lighter weight cattle.  Saskatchewan auction markets' sales were up sharply again this week, with 39,990 head moving through the ring, up from last week's 35,366 head.  Light weight steers (300-400 lb.) were down $8 per cwt., while steers 400-500 lb. were trading $5 per cwt. lower.  Steers 500-600 lb. experienced a price decrease of $4 per cwt.  Steers 600- 800 lb. were down $3 per cwt., while 800-900 weight steers traded $1 per cwt. lower.  Heavy steers (900+ lb.) experienced a loss of $3 per cwt.  Light weight heifers (300-400 lb.) were $6 per cwt. for the week.  Heifers 400-500 lb. traded $5 per cwt. lower.  Heifers 500-600 lb. traded lower this week, down $4 per cwt.  Six hundred-700 lb. heifers experienced losses of $3 per cwt.  Heifers 700-800 lb. traded $2 per cwt. lower, while heavy heifers (800+ lb.) were unchanged for the week.

Western Canada's fed cattle market was relatively unchanged this week as trading volumes decreased over previous weeks.  Saskatchewan fed steers experienced a price decrease of $1.00 per cwt.  Fed cattle exports to the United States were marginally larger this week, with 18,001 head moving south, up from 17,365 head the previous week.  D1,2 cows values remained relatively flat for the forth consecutive week, with the average price of slaughter cows $30.94 per cwt.
