The first map listed below indicates the average Corn Heat Units. Half the years will receive more, and half the years will receive less. Growing corn for silage takes less Heat Units. So when choosing a variety for silage, choose a variety with a CHU rating between the average and the 90%.

The second map indicates the Corn Heat Units one can expect nine years out of ten. This map is most applicable for those wishing to combine corn for grain. Choose a variety with a CHU rating similar to what this map indicates.
