The University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon is one of only two in Canada that has a metabolic unit for conducting clinical trials for food products.

Over the last 20 years, the Agriculture Development Fund has supported over 2500 projects in several different areas from primary production and plant breeding to vaccine development and genomics research. Annually, Saskatchewan Agriculture contributes $2.5 million from the Agriculture Development Fund to new research projects and about $4.5 M to ongoing commitments.

Introduced in 1986 through a series of five-year agreements with the University of Saskatchewan to fund agriculture and food research.

ADF funding awarded for 58 projects in 2008.
