As we approach the holidays, cattle volumes were significantly lower.  Saskatchewan auction markets' sales were down sharply this week with 9,142 head moving through the ring, down from last week's 39,990 head.  Saskatchewan feeder cattle were negatively affected across all weight classes, in both the steer and heifer markets.  Light weight steers (300-400 lb.) were down $6 per cwt., while steers 400-500 lb. were trading $2 per cwt. lower.  Steers 500-600 lb. experienced a price decrease of $4 per cwt., for the second straight week.  Steers 600-700 lb. and 800-900 lb. were both down $3 per cwt., while 700-800 weight steers traded $2 per cwt. lower.  Heavy steers (900+ lb.) experienced a loss of $4 per cwt.  Light weight heifers (300-400 lb.) were down $5 per cwt. for the week.  Heifers 400-500 lb. traded $1 per cwt. lower.  Heifers 500-600 lb. traded lower this week, down $4 per cwt.  Heifers (600-700 lb.) experienced losses of $3 per cwt.  Heifers (700-800+ lb.) traded $4 per cwt. lower.

Saskatchewan feeder cattle prices ended lower from this time a year ago in all classes of steers and heifers, with the exception of heavy weight steers, which traded on par with last year.
