Saskatchewan auction marts reported slow trading occurring this week due to the extremely cold conditions across the province.  Sales were reported at 8,132 head, down from 12,619 head the week previous.  Saskatchewan feeder cattle prices were generally flat or higher.  Light weight steers (300-400 lb.) lost its gains from last week, down $4 per cwt., while steers 400-500 lb. were trading $2 per cwt. higher.  Steers 500-600 lb. experienced a slight decline in price, down $1 per cwt.  Steers 600-900 lb. were unchanged for the week.  Heavy steers (900+ lb.) traded $1 per cwt. higher.  Light weight heifers (300-400 lb.) were up $2 per cwt. for the week.  Heifers 400-500 lb. traded $3 per cwt. higher.  Heifers 500-800 lb. traded up this week, up $1 per cwt.  Heavy Heifers (800+) were unchanged.  The Saskatchewan/Nebraska cash basis was $6.48 for the week, from $6.78 the week previous.  Feed Barley in the par region (delivery within 100 miles of Saskatoon) had an average cash price of $187.18 per tonne, trading up from last week's average of $176.53 per tonne.  The Lethbridge cash price was 215.00/tonne for the week.  The Canadian dollar was up this week at US$0.9942 from US$0.978.

Western Canada's fed cattle market was flat last week as Saskatchewan steers were unchanged.  Fed cattle exports to the United States were unchanged this week, as 20,168 head moved south, from 20,181 head the week previous.  D1,2 cows recorded an average price for slaughter cows of $33.61 per cwt. up from $31.23 per cwt. the week previous.
