The Marketing Freedom for Grain Farmers Act took effect on Dec. 15, 2011. This means that farmers can forward  contract now. The Canadian Wheat Board's single-desk monopoly ends on July 31, 2012, and as of Aug. 1, 2012, wheat and barley producers in Saskatchewan will be able to sell their grain on the open market or through the Canadian Wheat Board.
