Saskatchewan's extensive land base and semi-arid climate are ideal for the production of vegetables. Saskatchewan-grown potatoes are sold as seed, as well as fresh, to local consumers. Potatoes produced in Saskatchewan are recognized throughout North America for their high quality.

In Saskatchewan, basil is a leafy, edible and fragrant herb that is grown outdoors in the summer and by greenhouse operators and home gardeners year round.

Saskatchewan's climate and soils are well suited for growing cabbage (Brassica oleracea).
Carrots (Daucus carota) grow well in Saskatchewan's climate and soils.
Garlic (Allium sativum), a member of the Amaryllidaceae (Amaryllis Family), is an herbaceous perennial that is often grown as an annual crop. 
Onions (Allium cepa) are well suited to grow in Saskatchewan’s climate and soils.

Late blight can infect any member of the Solanaceaous family (which includes potatoes, tomatoes and peppers) at any time during the growing season.
